The Practical Way of Shopping The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

A few years ago, I would wake up at like 4am and begin rummaging through the Nordstrom website and get my picks from the Anniversary Sale.

We’ve been seeing the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale on our feeds since influencers became a thing. I think in 2021, the mindset of both bloggers/influencers and shoppers have shifted. For me, this has been my mindset all along. I used to spend A LOT of money during the sale on things I

thought

I needed, what I

thought

people wanted to see, and what I

thought

people would buy. I’ve come to realize that people aren’t flocking to my website or my Instagram to shop. So I 100% stopped putting effort into curating my content to look a certain way just for the sake of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

Instead, I shop it just how I want to — and take a practical approach. Here are my thoughts on the sale + how I’m shopping the sale this year.

Items are hit or miss

It’s VERY easy to get caught up in all of the sale prices. But as someone who has shopped the sale throughout the years, you can tell items are 100% hit or miss. I worked for a company that created products specifically for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and let’s just say, they weren’t the same quality product as what we put in our stores. I really used to buy pieces just because they were “on sale”, but they ended up not being worth it.

They’ll be further marked down

Maybe it’s because work in the world of retail, but just because these pieces are “on sale” now, doesn’t mean they aren’t going to be taken to markdown in a few months. Trust me, I don’t think pieces are going to sell out as fast as they used to. If you’re on the fence about something — I’d wait it out. If it’s still available in a few months, then go for it!

Take a look at your closet

The biggest thing I do now is REALLY think about my closet. I think about what I already own, what I definitely need, and then think about some fashion/trend pieces that I might want for this season. I’m a BIG fall fashion girl, so it’s easy for me to buy every single sweater that I love. But now that I live in a 600 sq ft. apartment, my space is very limited…and I’m not trying to break the bank.

It’s so tempting to put everything you see in your cart, but I promise being mindful of what you already have in your closet will be VERY beneficial. Even this go around, I felt like I wanted so many things. The key word here? WANTED. When I stopped to do a quick inventory check, I already own so many of these pieces.

Pieces I’m buying from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Naturally, everything I want sold out as soon as I was able to get access to the sale. But, I’m going to keep some faith because I know so many things come back in stock after returns. Here are the main items I’m looking to purchase:

And that’s KINNNNNNNNNNNNND of it to be honest. BUT, I did want to share additional pieces (or super similar items) that I’ve previously purchased from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
